You can also create self-extracting files in the EXE format that can be launched and extracted without using any decompression software — this is great if you're sending an archive to someone but you aren't sure if they have the proper software to extract files. Towards this end, I'm looking for a UK (or ideally Scotland) shapefile with LAU2 level administrative boundaries (i.e. local parishes) that can be downloaded directly to R.
